Children learn to sail in the CBYC plastic Optimists (known as Plastimists). From here many progress to the Green Fleet which is the next step in the sailing journey. The Green Fleet is an Optimist training group where sailors progress beyoned the basic skills and need to own their own boat. Help and advice is available through the club to help with purchasing a boat and many have been previously owned by club members. Sailors refine their skllls and techniques through a combination of drills and local sailing, and are encouraged to come to club days as Green Fleet members.
From Green Fleet many young sailors join our Open Fleet which is race training program for Optimists. These sailors compete within the club, and around the region and country if they choose to.
CBYC has a strong and active P-class fleet who usually train in the first half of the sailing season before swapping over to other boats, either back to Optimists or on to Starlings.
We Currently have a very strong group of Starlings training at the CBYC and competing locally and nationally.
CBYC is hosting the Starling Nationals in February 2024
