Check out Green fleet Race Officer, Nigel Soper’s, report here:
Hey a great weekend of sailing was experienced by 14 greenies and 4 newbies in the rainbow fleet.
Nice mix of boys and girls of all ages enjoyed nice light southwest breeze on Saturday and were then tested with a moderate North easterly on Sunday. This made results interesting and saw different winners in 4 of the 6 races.
Young William Haycock took the green fleet title with some great boat handling in the breeze on Sunday and raked up two wins.
Jimmy Scobie sailed brilliantly on the Saturday in the light stuff and scored two wins. He showed the others how to get on the start line at the gun and sailed clear of the others. Great effort.
Mali Lloyd lead the girls home for a 4th place overall and was consistent in all races winning the third race.
CBYC had 10 of the 14 green fleeters, but it was great to have a special visit from Noah Johnson all the way for Lake Mahinapua on the coast and a couple of Waimak sailers and one from Christchurch yacht club to make a strong fleet.
Hope to see all back next year bigger and faster.
Nice turnout for our first inclusion of rainbow fleet racing with Luke, Jamie, Luka and Tyla making a great effort to get around the course for the first time. They finished up overall in that order but the attached photos on our Facebook page show how good they all went with plenty of breeze to challenge them on the Sunday.
