What a beautiful weekend for Charteris Bay to host the 3.7 Nationals. Day two brought classic Lyttleton Harbour sailing with a 16 knot noreaster making an ideal M course with some fast reaching, a number of capsizes and the odd breakage. Day three was fickle switching from northerly to norwest mid first race and producing an exciting finish. All agreed to abandon the last race as the wind direction oscillated over the next hour.
There was some stiff competition out front but John Kennet in True Luff, 379, really showed his class winning five of nine races to take the championship, a great reward for a Charteris Bay member who has put so much effort into introducing the class to the club.
