Adult Learn to Sail & Grey Fleet
Adult Learn To Sail Courses
Charteris Bay Yacht Club runs a two-day learn to sail programme for adults and older teenagers.
The course is tailored for complete novices or those who are rusty and needing a refresher course. The course is sailed in a single person laser dinghy with a 4.7 rig: ie suitable for 50+kg and we also have a Topaz Omega for adult instruction.
The aim of the course is to prepare you for club sailing. You will learn to rig, launch and retrieve your boat, to be able to sail a basic triangular course and to be able to right your boat from capsize. On completion of the course participants may then join our Grey Fleet group for ongoing sailing.
The next Adult Learn to Sail Courses will be held in December and January.

Charteris Bay has an enthusiastic Grey Fleet. These are sailors who have completed an Adult Learn to Sail course or who have previous dinghy sailing experience and are confident in their basic sailing skills. The club has a small number of laser dinghies available for this group to hire or members can use their own dinghy.
Grey Fleet sails on a weekday evening from 6-8pm (tide dependent). There is some coaching available to support this group.
On club days a laser course is set suitable for the Grey Fleet. They also enjoy the occasional social evening, sailing short races followed by a BBQ.

In 2016 CBYC has purchased a Topaz Omega yacht to add to our Adult Learn to Sail and Grey Fleet. This can be crewed with 2-5 adults giving some flexibility to our learn to sail with varying abilities and weather conditions.
